Combine multiple PDFs and images into one tidy document in seconds. Our free merge PDF tool lets you join files, reorder pages and download a single clean PDF, all in your browser.
What is Merge PDF?
Merge PDF is a free online tool that combines multiple PDF files, and optional images, into a single document. Instead of emailing someone three separate attachments or hunting through a folder of related files, you can join them into one clean PDF that opens in order and is easy to share, print and archive. It is one of the most common document chores there is, and it should take seconds.
The tool joins your files end to end without re-rendering the pages, so quality is preserved. You stay in control of order: drag the files and pages into the exact sequence you want before merging. Because it can also accept images, you can slot a photographed page or a scanned signature between two PDFs in the same pass. When your inputs are all loose images rather than PDFs, our image to PDF tool is the better starting point.
How to merge PDF files
- Upload the PDFs you want to combine using the box above, or drag them in together.
- Add any images you want to include in the same document.
- Drag the files and pages to arrange them in the order you need.
- Click Merge to join everything into a single PDF.
- Download your combined PDF, ready to share or store.
The whole process runs in your browser and is usually done in a few seconds, even with several files in the mix.
When to merge versus split
Merging brings files together; sometimes you need the opposite. If you want to pull pages out of a PDF as pictures, PDF to JPG exports each page as an image you can reuse or recombine. And if a merged document needs to become editable, PDF to Word converts it into a .docx you can rework, with OCR for any scanned pages. Choosing the right tool for each step keeps your workflow clean.
Keeping the merged PDF useful
A merged file is only as searchable as its parts. Pages that came from born-digital PDFs keep their text layer, so you can still search and select them afterward. Pages that are scans or photos stay as images, which means they look correct but cannot be searched. To fix that, run those pages through OCR before or after merging; our guide to making a scanned PDF searchable explains how to add a text layer so the whole document becomes findable.
If you simply need the words out of a merged document rather than a searchable PDF, PDF to text extracts editable text, and clean, high-resolution source pages give the best results, as our improve OCR accuracy guide describes.
Common uses
People merge PDFs to assemble a single application packet from a form, a cover letter and supporting documents, to combine monthly statements into one annual file, to staple a scanned signature page onto a contract, or to gather a project's reports into one deliverable. Anywhere several files belong together, a single merged PDF is tidier and easier to send. Upload your files above to combine them into one document now.
